The primary purpose of the Baptism Ministry is to help parents understand the meaning of the sacrament and prepare for the Baptism of their child.

Parents register for Baptism online. Classes are held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 PM in the Parish Center. At this gathering, parents and godparents are welcomed into our community. We provide instruction on the celebration and importance of the sacrament with a video and discussion period. Volunteers alternate in conducting our classes. Anyone interested in volunteering for this for ministry should feel comfortable speaking in front of a group. We happily provide written discussion points and on-the-job training. Diocesan classes are available from time to time.

Baptisms are celebrated at St. Thomas at 1:30 PM on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month in the main church. A minimum of two Baptism Ministry volunteers are present to greet the families and assist the Celebrant. Ministry volunteers may read part of the liturgy when needed. We also offer the option to volunteer only in the church at the actual Baptism. The requirements for volunteering for “church only” are a cheerful disposition and a willingness to serve others.

The Sacrament of Baptism is a joyful occasion. This ministry provides an opportunity to share our Christian walk of faith with parents who are bringing their children into our faith community. It is a blessing to share in their joy.
